TO: ORGANIZATIONS SEEKING GRANTS FROM THE AARP FOUNDATION DISASTER RELIEF AND RECOVERY FUND
SUBJECT: GRANT APPLICATION GUIDELINES
The AARP Foundation is offering grants to nonprofit and governmental organizations that are providing assistance for older victims of the recent hurricanes on the Gulf Coast. Grants will be made to agencies providing health, long term care, housing assistance, employment assistance, transportation, legal assistance or other necessary services for older victims. Priority will be given to direct service agencies in locations where need is greatest based on numbers of displaced, evacuated or homeless persons 50+.
Funding for the grants will be taken from the AARP Foundation Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund to which the Foundation, AARP, its members and employees have contributed. Grants will not exceed $100,000.
Required Attachments:

- Most recent IRS Form 990
- OMB Circular A-133 report (if applicable)
- Organizational Capability Statement
- Current annual budget (revenue, expense and contribution to net assets)
- Information on the organization, including organizational structure and governance

PROPOSAL INFORMATION
All funds will be made to organizations providing health, long term care, housing assistance, employment assistance, transportation, legal assistance or other necessary services for older victims of the recent hurricanes on the Gulf Coast. Priority will be given to organizations providing direct services and operating in locations where need is greatest based on numbers of affected, evacuated or displaced persons 50+. All project activities must be completed by December 31, 2006.
Your proposal should include the following information:
1. Brief description of your organization and its mission and goals.
2. The fiscal year for your organization.
3. Total revenue and sources of organizational revenue for the last fiscal year.
4. Current statement of activities and statement of financial position.
5. Name, title and brief description of experience of key project management team.
6. Description of your organization’s major program areas and how you measure success of each.
7. Describe the measures of efficiency and effectiveness your organization uses to measure success.
8. Identify your organization’s three largest funding sources for the last three fiscal years.
9. Describe the internal controls your organization has in place to ensure that funds are used in accordance with the grant agreement.
10. Describe the disaster relief and recovery needs caused by the recent hurricanes for which you are seeking funding.
11. Describe why the services are needed and other organizations that are addressing these needs in your area.
12. Describe how your organization’s activities will be conducted, geographic area and how services will be provided (e.g. staff vs. volunteers), including the number of victims 50+ that you plan to serve and how.
13. Identify sub awards or significant third parties that will be used to achieve grant activities, including a description of how compliance will be monitored.
14. Budget information should be provided by line item and calendar year.
