Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, and health and mental health services to address basic human needs. In addition to these services, the core of Red Cross disaster relief is the assistance given to individuals and families affected by disaster to enable them to resume their normal daily activities independently.
Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and her immense devastation, former Presidents Bush and Clinton stablished the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund to provide relief and rebuilding resources to help the victims of this disaster. This charitable fund will collect cash and in-kind donations and work with the governors of the affected states to coordinate both the short and long term relief efforts.

Habitat for Humanity International announced an emergency appeal for funds to help Habitat families and other low-income families in the affected areas recover and rebuild. In addition to the emergency appeal, Habitat’s Disaster Response Office in conjunction with field staff has initiated the process of assessing the status of Habitat partner families.
NCLR Katrina Relief Fund
The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Katrina Relief Fund for NCLR affiliates to provide short-term emergency financial assistance to Katrina evacuees in their service area. It is estimated that many of the 100,000 Latinos who live in the affected areas have been displaced by the hurricane. The NCLR is the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S. All proceeds from the Fund will be distributed to NCLR affiliates serving those affected by the storm.
