| USDA Rural Development Sets Policies for
FY 2007 Section 523 Self-Help Grants
Anticipating a significant shortfall in funding for the Section 523 Mutual Self-Help Technical Assistance Grants program, USDA Rural Development has established limits on fiscal year 2007 for applications from both existing and new grantees. An Unnumbered Letter (UL) dated January 5, 2007 provides that:
- "Existing performing grantees will be limited to a grant in an amount not to exceed 60% of their previous grant. If this amount is less than the grantee anticipated, this will be considered a partial funding of the grant and grantee should be so advised. . . . "
- "New grant requests of up to $250,000 will be considered. These will not be considered partial funding of a larger proposal. Any eligible organization can apply; however, preference will be given to proposals that meet one or more [conditions specifically listed in the UL] . . . "
