The following table and maps of service areas for York County Shelters, Inc. in Maine and Southwest Human Resource Agency in Tennessee illustrate the various rural/urban characteristics that a nonmetro area can possess.

A. Case Study Organizations' Service Areas

The organizations examined in the six case studies had service areas that ranged in size from one county, as in York County Shelters, Inc.'s service area, to eight counties, as in the Southwest Human Resource Agency's service area. It should be noted that none of the case study organizations limited their services to only those clients who came from within county boundaries. Following are maps of Maine and Tennessee with the two sample case study service areas indicated.
