Local Residents Look to Green Hills for Affordable Housing

Grant funds from two of HAC’s capacity building programs have enabled the Green Hills Community Action Agency (CAA) in Trenton, Mo. to purchase a much-needed dump truck and a backhoe. Housing director Art Heriford has worked closely HAC staff to identify and obtain development funds, Heriford says, as well as make sound decisions such as whether to purchase a particular piece of property.

Monies HAC has passed through to Green Hills CAA from its Community Housing Development Organizations project and Rural Capacity Building Initiative have also paid for a computer and covered parts of the salaries of some accounting and construction staff.

Like many local rural housing organizations, Green Hills CAA has undertaken several different types of projects throughout its nine-county service area, depending on the needs of each community. In Trenton, for example, the agency has constructed infill housing and rehabilitated old homes. In Pattonsburg, it used Low Income Housing Tax Credit financing to develop a low-density rental complex for families.
