2008
January 16-18, 2008: Building Rural Communities
Through CHDOs was held at the Hotel Monaco in downtown
Seattle, Washington. This training conference offered attendees
the choice of two tracks: Building HOME for CHDOs
and Nonprofits or Single Family Housing
Development.
Supplemental Training: Registrants

January
29-30, 2008: Building Rural Communities Through CHDOs held at the Sheraton Hotel Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama. Building HOME is a comprehensive introduction to
the HOME Program, as well as an important refresher on the basic
elements of the program. Participants become familiar with
program activities, including homeowner rehabilitation, homebuyer,
rental housing, tenant-based rental assistance, and CHDO activities.
February 7-8, 2008: Building
Rural Communities Through CHDOs held at the Holiday
Inn in Lafayette, LA. This Single Family Housing Development workshop is designed to provide participants with important information
on financing and developing affordable single-family housing.
Participants examine the overall assumptions, risks, procedures,
financial considerations, site planning, construction and development
issues inherent in affordable single-family housing development.
February 12-13, 2008: Building Rural Communities
Through CHDOs held at theResidence Inn by Marriott-
Kansas City Airport in Kansas City, MO. See Single Family Housing Development workshop description above.
March 25-27, 2008: Building Rural Communities
Through CHDOs held at the Wyndham Riverwalk Hotel in Jacksonville,
Florida. This training conference offered attendees the choice
of two tracks: Advanced Financial Management or
Single Family Housing Development.
April 29-30, 2008: Building Rural Communities
Through CHDOs held in Little Rock, Arkansas this training
provide participants with important information on financing and
developing affordable single-family housing. See Single
Family Housing Development workshop description
above.

2008 Upcoming Trainings
May 12, 2008: HAC will host the
audioweb conference: Applying for HUD Rural
Housing and Economic Development in 2008 from 3:00 - 4:00
pm EST. The conference will provide local practitioners with the
information they need to successfully apply for RHED program funds.
HAC will present information on Application Criteria, Eligible
Applicants and Activities, Rating Factors, and Leveraging. For
more information, please see the flyer and registration forms
below.
Format: This will be a web-based conference call. Participants
have the choice of participating via the web, the telephone
or both! Each participant's connection to the internet will determine
the speed of presentation slides appearing on individual screen.

which fall under the jurisdiction of the Pittsburgh HUD CPD Office
(West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania).
This workshop, Housing Rehabilitation for Homeownership,
is designed to increase the capacity of affordable housing developers
to acquire and rehabilitate single family housing using the HOME
Program. This two-day course will provide information to participants
on conducting a market analysis, finding your development partners,
assessing project feasibility, acquisition, qualifying homebuyers,
the financing and design of a project (including "green"
practices), the rehabilitation and repair process, and project
close out. Additionally, Rural Opportunities, Inc., a nonprofit
housing developer, will share their first hand knowledge and examples
of housing rehabilitation best practices.

and the Housing Assistance Council, this workshop, Housing

which fall under the jurisdiction of the Buffalo HUD Community
Planning and Development Office.
Sponsored by The US Department of Housing and Urban Development
and the Housing Assistance Council, this workshop, Advanced
Housing Rehabilitation for Homeownership, is designed
for affordable housing developers who have experience with acquisition
and rehabilitation of single family housing for homeownership
using the HOME Program. This- two day course will review
the acquisition and rehabilitation process, including market analysis,
development partners, project feasibility, acquisition, homebuyer
qualification, financing, design (including green
practices), estimating, bidding, managing construction, and project
close out. Additionally, a consultant with a background in
management and specifications, and Rural Opportunities, Inc.,
a nonprofit housing developer, will share their first hand knowledge
and examples of housing rehabilitation best practices.
